Lived Experience Teaching

This research stream explores the impact of disability lived experience teaching in higher education. Focusing on units across the School of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney, the study examines what students gain from these classes and captures the insights of the educators in the classroom.

The project builds on a sustained, longer-term focus for the Centre for Disability Research and Policy (CDRP), which began with its lived-experience forum series launched in 2023. While personal accounts demonstrate the positive difference disabled teachers make, little systematic research tracks this feedback over time. This study fills that gap by analysing multi-year student survey data alongside in-depth interviews, providing an evidence base to help universities better support and embed lived experience educators.
